As anyone who reads my blog knows I LOVE face masks! There are a lot out there and I've tried most of them. Some just make you feel nice and relaxed but you don't really notice a difference in your skin, well....I've found one that does! I've been watching Hoda and Kathie Lee on the Today show on NBC these past few mornings and tomorrow they are going to go live on TV makeup free! This got me thinking to how you could look your best without any makeup whatsoever. If you find yourself in this situation - maybe camping with a new boyfriend and you don't want to seem high maintenance for instance, here's how to prepare:

Leading up to the time in question I suggest getting your eyebrows and eyelashes dyed. Unless you are naturally very dark this makes a huge difference to your face.
Use eyelash curlers and eyedrops to give yourself a wide awake doe eyed look in seconds - I love Naphcon A eyedrops http://www.cvs.com/ and Talika heated eyelash curlers http://www.talika.com/

There are a few items everyone should have in their makeup bag. With these you can create almost any look from natural daytime to a full on evening makeup.

Here is a list of my recommendations:

Black eyeliner pencil: This you can use to give subtle definition or go for an all out smoky eye. Useful to keep in your bag for touch ups too. Black mascara: I know everyone says you should wear brown mascara if you're blonde but I like the added definition and depth that black mascara gives to every coloring. Powder Bronzer: Great for any skin to add warmth and cheekbones if shaded underneath the apple! Lipliner: A neutral shade can be used to define lips and add a base for gloss. Sensa Weight-Loss System

I have just started on the Sensa Weight-Loss System and I actually can't believe it, but it works! It's developed by Dr Alan Hirsch and you just sprinkle it on top of your normal food. They are called tastants and they make you feel full by speeding up the satiety process through your sense of smell. They don't taste of anything and you can eat what you want. I sprinkled them on my morning toast on the first day and I struggled to finish the second piece. I was full for ages and I'm now not snacking and definitely eating less. I also sprinkled it on my friend's meal and she felt the same (I wanted to make sure I wasn't imagining it)! I've only been using it for 2 days, so I'll let you know my weight loss progress as I go on.

These are double-ended cream sticks that making a smoky eye one of the easiest eye makeups you'll ever do! You blend one end all over the lid and line with the other, I like to define the crease with this end too. It's so easy it's making me worried!

The Grapeseed Company: http://www.thegrapeseedcompany.com/ This is a local Santa Barbara company that hand makes all sorts of lotions and potions that contain grapeseed oil a natural byproduct of winemaking. This means that the products are rich in antioxidnants, vitamins and reservatrol which fight free radicals. I love the Lavender and Rose toner, it makes your skin feel fresh and tightens the pores. I sometimes use this over my makeup to refresh.

Mor Cosmetics: http://www.morcosmetics.com/ If you're looking for a luxurious gift for somebody, look no further than here. A range of body care, scents and candles that are beautifully packaged and smell delicious! The hand and body wash is in the most amazing wooden bottle that would make any bathroom look like a 5 star hotels!

Scott Barnes: http://www.scottbarnes.com/ The original body glow, this shimmering lotion makes you look like you just returned from a tropical vacation. Created by Jennifer Lopez's makeup artist, one of the reasons she always looks radiant.

The name says it all, it feel weightless but creates a flawless canvas and gives you a 'I've just come back from running on the beach' glow.

I am now wearing Ella perfume daily, a light flowery fragrance that you can use on your linens and to scent your room too. How to recreate the makeup from the latest Hourglass Cosmetics campaign

The step by step way to achieve the look I created for the latest Hourglass Cosmetics campaign:

Base: Hourglass Fluid Veil - I mixed shades 0 and 1 for the alabaster of the models complexion. I concealed where necessary with Hidden Concealer in Pearl.

Blush: Use the bronze cream from the Illume Cream to Powder Bronze/Highlighter duo under the cheekbones to sculpt and add definition and then highlight with the champagne shimmer in a C shape from the top of the cheekbones to the browbones.

Powder: Using a light touch powder just down the T zone with Veil Invisble Powder in Transparent, to allow the glow from the cheeks to come through.

Eyes: Start by applying the light shade from the Visionaire duo in Suede all over the lid up to the crease. Using the darker shade from the same compact, shade from the inner corners of the crease all the way out to the edge of the browbone and blend thoroughly. Add more depth in the creaseline with the taupe shimmer shade from the Cashmere compact and use the matte bone shade on the browbones to feather all the colors together. Define the eyes with Calligraphy Liner in Ebony by tracing it along the upper and lower lashlines. Darken and soften the edges with the matte black from the Cashmere compact. Add two coats of Superficial Mascara in Carbon for long feathery lashes. Define the brows with the matte bone shade from the Cashmere compact and then brush through with a brow brush (if you have dark hair use the black shadow sparingly).

Lips: Define and fill in the lips with Trace Lipliner in Bare to give a lasting base and depth of color and then add a gorgeous sheen with new Prodigy Lipgloss in Eden.

I did Terri's makeup today for the 41st NAACP Image Awards which she co-hosted with Jesse Williams (Greys Anatomy) at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Although you can't see from this picture (I took it with my iphone of her on the red carpet) I thought I'd tell you what makeup I used on her, you'll be able to see it when it's aired on Fox on Friday 26th February at 8/7c. As she was wearing a cute black and white print dress I thought I'd stay within that color range but keep it simple - here's how to achieve her look:

Preparing from top to toe for a beautiful Valentines look

On Valentines day you want to feel and look your best from top to toe. I like to have a few hours to get ready before a big date and to pamper myself thoroughly, so put as much time as you can aside and follow these tips:

Take off any makeup you have on with a good cleanser such as Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser http://www.lizearle.com/ which removes even eyemakeup completely. Then put on a mask to smooth your skin for makeup, I like Renee Rouleau Triple Berry Smoothing Peel http://www.reneerouleau.com/ as this really brightens and softens. While the mask is working lie down with Talika's Eye Decompress mask http://www.talika.com/ on to refresh the eye area and temporarily erase fine lines. Start by preparing your skin with a primer that is lightweight and feels refreshing. For your eyes the trick is to keep it light and fresh. Take a liquid shadow, I use Stila http://www.stilacosmetics.com/ Silk Eyeshadow Wash in Kitten and blend it all over the lids and slightly into the crease. Let it dry (it won't budge when it does) and then line the upper lashline with a dampened fine eyeliner brush dipped in a dark brown shadow such as Emani Minerals http://www.emani.com/ High Performance Brow Filler and Eyeliner (as the name suggests it doubles as a brow shadow). Line the lower lashline with a shimmery eyeliner pencil in a taupe or cream shade, my favorite is the Jumbo Eye Pencil by Sephora in no. 5. Add 2 coats of thickening mascara in brown or black depending on your hair color - a good one is Anastasia Lash Lift http://www.anastasia.net/ .

The main focus of this look is the pink blusher, it needs to stand out to give that girly, coy romantic look so take your time and using a fluffy dome shaped blusher brush concentrate color on the apples of the cheeks, swirling gently until you get that radiant glow. I love Lorac http://www.lorac.com/ Baked Matte Satin Blush in Velvet Rope for it's gorgeous sheen.

Keep the lips simple by applying a tinted balm like Bloom's Lip Tint in Veil http://www.bloomcosmetics.com/ which has the advantage of keeping your lips soft but not gloopy - in other words kissable!

Don't forget about the skin your baring too, you want to keep that romantic glow going all over - sweep Benefit Body So Fine http://www.benefitcosmetics.com/ on your shoulders, decollete, arms and legs (or wherever your have skin showing) or Scott Barnes Body Bling http://www.scottbarnes.com/ if you have tanned or darker skin. Both give a shimmering glow and make your skin look like it is lit from within.

I'm a big fan of supplements designed to promote healthy skin, hair and nails from the inside. I have recently tried both Glowelle and Sibu Beauty and am about to start on the Glisodin Skin range. I definitely saw improvements with both Glowelle and Sibu Beauty. My hair and nails grew at a rapid rate and my skin seemed firmer and had less fine dryness lines. I'm excited to start the GliSODin Skin as these are said to have slightly different effects such as detoxification (for weight loss too) and helping with damage from sun exposure. I recently had the opportunity of meeting with the lovely Dr. Behroozan of http://www.dermsurgery.net/ in Santa Monica to get advice on how to treat different skin types/problems and also to get a prescription for Latisse http://www.latisse.com/ (I'm just starting it so I'll let you know my progress as time goes on).

Here are his suggestions on how to look after and what specific treatments there are for your skin type:

Oily Skin --- Most people have oily skin due to an excess of “sebum” on the skin surface. Procedures like Photodynamic Therapy with V Beam Laser can greatly reduce the production of oil on the skin. Also, topical skin care products containing: retinol, salicylic and glycolic acid can help to dry up excess oil. Skinceuticals Simply Clean Cleanser is a glycolic acid cleanser that is very effective on oily skin types.

Acne ---- Acne is a result of many factors. Most common culprits are hormones, bacteria, and clogged pores. Photodynamic Therapy is a great option for those that want a “holistic” therapy to treat acne without oral medications. Topical creams can also help in the right combinations. Skinceuticals Clarifying Cleanser is a non irritating salicylic acid acne cleanser that can help to unclog pores. Sunscreen is the most important product for Rosacea sufferers, as sun exposure can make symptoms worse and should be avoided whenever possible. V Beam Laser treatment is the “gold standard” for treatment and suppression of blood vessels on the skin surface. This treatment has very little downtime, mild redness and swelling for 24-48 hours after treatment, and can be done every 3-4 weeks until desired results are achieved.

What's in my makeup bag?

I often tell you about the products I use on clients but these are the products that are actually in my own makeup bag and that I use on a daily basis - I use a few different things for daytime or evening makeup but some I use for both.

Under eye concealer: Tarte Dark Circle Defense Concealer http://www.tarte.com/ - this makes me look like I've slept for at least 8 hours and I use this day and night.

Blemish Concealer: Estee Lauder Maximum Cover http://www.esteelauder.com/ this is very light in texture but it covers EVERYTHING! It's also waterproof and long lasting making it ideal for day or night.

Foundation: I use Benefit Hello Flawless Powder Foundation http://www.benefitcosmetics.com/
during the day I use this powder to even out my skintone and provide more sun protection whilst still looking natural. For evening I use Hourglass Fluid Veil http://www.hourglasscosmetics.com/ for its smoothing and tightening effect and use Givenchy Parure Powder Foundation for touch ups throughout the night http://www.parfumsgivenchy.com/ it gives a radiant glow that doesn't look at all heavy.

Loose Powder: I always use loose powder after a liquid base as not only does it help to combat shine but also gives an airbrushed effect. I love Jurlique Citrus Silk Finishing Powder http://www.jurlique.com/ which is perfect for my oily skin. I wear this without any makeup sometimes just to eliminate shine and even out my skintone. There are other variations to suit all skin types in the range.

Blusher: I use both a cream and a powder blush depending on the time of day, usually just cream during the day but both layered in the evening. An edgy but not overdone evening makeup

I've been noticing lately (even more than usual) that a lot of celebrities are wearing far too much makeup. I'm all for a smoky eye but it needs to be balanced by glowy skin and natural looking lips or it starts to stray into drag queen territory and the only people that makeup looks good on IS drag queens! It can also be incredibly aging - I've seen some pictures recently of 25 year olds where they look like they are over forty and extras on Dynasty....not a good look!

Here is how to do evening makeup with an edge but not overdone:

Firstly start with a glowy luminizing tinted moisturizer (I will recommend products at the end) and blend all over the face. Conceal where necessary and set with a light layer of very fine powder to take away shine but without dulling the glow.
Start your eyes with a base of satiny or matte bone coloured powder shadow on the lids into just above the crease. Next line upper and lower lashlines with a black eyeliner and smudge slightly. Line inside the eyes with a metallic eyeliner such as a silver or gunmetal. Now go over the upper and lower lashlines with a glittery black or metallic gunmetal powder shadow and blend outwards. Finish with a couple of coats of thickening black mascara.
Dust a highlighting champagne colored highlighting powder for light skin or bronze for dark skin on to the highest point of the cheekbones, on the temples and a little down the center of the nose. If you really can't live without blush put the lightest amount of pale pink or peach for light skins or plum for dark skins on the apples of the cheeks and blend until it's almost gone.
Outline the cupids bow of your lips with a flesh colored shimmer pencil to give fullness and definition and then fill in with a nude colored gloss or satin lipstick.
This is a striking look but evens out the heavy eyeshadow with natural skin and lips, and this can make you look years younger.

What will the red carpet trend be for brows during the Golden Globes?

“Brows will follow closely with hair and I have the feeling that the ultra feminine is back thanks to all the Vampire trilogies and True Blood, the starlets will make smoldering choices with clothes, hair and makeup. Brows will be high arched and of a medium to thick shape. We will use pencil and powder to highlight where the brow corners as well as the beginning and end of a “power shape”. Neil George Refresh Dry Shampoo - tips from Neil

Dry shampoo is great for work to evening - this dry shampoo can save you that wash you may not have time for. Just apply to hair after work, on your way to a dinner party for a quick pick me up refresher. it will revamp your look.

I find that day old hair actually styles better. Ideally, go a day without a proper scrub, then hit your hair with the dry shampoo, upside down to give your roots lift. For the recessionista, save a day or two extra from your salon blowdry, and use dry shampoo to prolong.

If you're thinking of getting your legs waxed now is the time to do it. It will last you through Christmas until the New Year and any redness will subside in a day or so.The best results are at a salon, but I've also had success with at home kits too. There are a few different kinds available at most drugstores although I prefer the pre-waxed strips that you press on and pull off. It does hurt, I can't lie, so unless you're used to it or can stand the pain of doing it yourself, get a friend to pull them off for you! There is nothing worse than stopping it half way and then trying to get the rest off.
Another option is an epilator - I bought the Bliss Bikini Perfect Bliss-Philips Bikini Perfect Deluxe HP6378 Spa-At-Home Grooming System last year and it's one of the best investents I've made. It keeps you hair free for weeks and is incredibly easy to use.
Then there's the good old fashioned way - shaving! Just make sure you use a new razor and shaving cream or foam to avoid nicks or you could use a hair removal cream which lasts slightly longer than shaving and leaves legs really smooth. Day 18...Eyebrows

Sorry it's a day late, I've been busy! Anyway here is a quick guide to getting your eyebrows looking good at home - after all they do a lot to define your eyes and face.

I don't recommend waxing at home as this can go wrong all too easily and you could end up without any brows at all - to my UK readers this is very Benidorm girls holiday circa 1989! A good guideline to tweezing is to never reomove above the browline and only take the stragglers out underneath. The thin line of tweezed brows is not a good look and you don't want to have to spend all your time drawing them back in. If you tale a pencil and put it straight against your nose, where it touches your brows is where they should start and if you angle it towards the end of your brows this will give your a rough idea of where they should end. To make tweezing less painful use a good pair of tweezers that won't slip or pinch your skin like Anastasia Tweezers 1 ea and just before you do it, put a hot cloth over them for a minute to open pores and then dab dry. You can also get a few things at the drugstore to numb the pain, look in the aisles that sell eyelashes etc.
After you've got them in shape unless you have perfectly colored and thick brows you may still need some help. There are a lot of options out there for filling in and keeping them in shape. I love Shu Uemura EYEBROW MANICURE 01 FOREST BLACK for my own brows. It comes in a lot of different shades and not only colors but keeps them in place all night. If you prefer powder for filling in there is a great set by Clarins http://www.clarins.com/ called Eyebrow Kit Pro Palette. This contains black, brown and blonde powders, wax to shape, highlighter and mini tweezers and tools all in one sleek case. For most brows, fill in with a lighter powder for fullness and then define with the darker shade to give shape. The morning after!

If you've had a long night partying and want to look like you haven't the next day, there are a few things you can do to make you look like you've had 8 hours sleep and only been drinking water!

Here's how to do it:

No matter how tired you are or how many drinks you've had it's important to take your makeup off when you get in. The easiest and most effective way is to use a makeup remover on a cotton pad. One of the best I've tried is Lancome's Eau Fraiche Douceur which removes all makeup easily and thoroughly. Splash your face after with cold water and dry gently then apply Sampar's Nocturnal Lifting Mask which firms and smooths overnight. Believe me this really does make a difference!
In the morning rinse the mask off and then put a few drops of Orlane's http://www.orlane.com/ Morning Recovery Concentrate. This revs up the circulation and brings color back into your face. Leave for a few seconds to absorb then apply your regular moisturizer and a depuffing eye serum like Arcona's Peptide Eye Serum. Sweep a luminizing foundation powder (I love Guerlain Parure Compact Foundation) all over your skin to disguise sallowness and even skintone and top with a dusting of matte bronzer and light pink blush.
Blend a light satin finish lilac eyeshadow over the eyelids to brighten eyes instantly and line inside the lower rim with a nude eyeliner like Pixi'sEyebright Liner http://www.pixibeauty.com/ to cover redness and make the whites look whiter. Put a couple of coats of navy mascara like NYX Doll Eye Mascara-Volume! on to finish the whitening effect.

Day 16...A formal party makeup

There are a few types of makeup looks that depend on the event you are going to. For a formal event the best look is understated but classy. Here is how to achieve that:

Start with freshly cleansed and moisturized skin. If you have the time use a face mask to brighten and lift the skin, giving it even more of a glow. I like ARCONA Wine Hydrating Mask, Replenish AM/PM 2 oz (59 g) which leaves skin so soft you may not even need moisturizer.
Next prep skin with a primer. This fills in fine lines, evens skin texture and enables your base to last longer. A good one is Alison Raffaele Face Forward Primer, Age Response, 1-Ounce Bottle. This is especially for aging skins, they also do a great one for blemished skin. Blend the primer as you would a moisturizer and leave for a minute to settle before applying base.
Using a foundation brush or a clean sponge, dot foundation on your forehead, nose, chin and cheeks and blend outwards and downwards. This technique concentrates foundation on the T-zone where most people need help and feathers it out towards the edges of the face so you are not left with a mask like effect or any in your hairline. My favorite foundation and the one I use on my clients is Veil Fluid Makeup, 4
Apply a creamy concealer where needed under the eyes and blend with your ring finger using a patting motion. To conceal blemishes I prefer to use a small brush and just a little concealer on top of the actual spot. Set the whole face with a light dusting of face powder Mineral Essence "Magic Finish (Net Wt. 9 grams)" is exceptionally fine and natural looking, concentrating on the oilier areas. If you like cream blusher, use this before powder. Put a dime sized amout on the apples of your cheeks and blend both inwards and out over the cheekbone for a natural looking flush. I find pinks, reds and peaches work best. If using red, just use a tiny amount or you'll look sunburnt instead of Snow White ish! The colors in the Kevyn Aucoin range work particularly well Kevyn Aucoin The Creamy Moist Glow Cheek Color, Pravella (Soft Pink) .14 oz (4 g)
For the eyes, keep it simple but add drama with a liquid liner. I start by using a matte cream or bone colored powder shadow all over the lid and up to the crease. Add depth by brushing a soft brown or taupe matte powder shadow in the crease and blend it until it's just a hint of a shadow. Now line the upper lid with a true black liquid liner Maybelline Lash Stiletto with Line Stiletto - Black is a good one. Holding the edge of the eyelid, pull it taut and then draw a thin line from the inner corner to the outer, slightly winging it out and up at the ends. Let dry then go over it with a thin brush and black powder eyeshadow, this will set it and also blur any slightly wobbly lines.
Add two coats of volumizing mascara Benefit Cosmetics BADgal Lash Mascara is ideal, to the top eyelashes only to complete the cat eye look. Leaving the bottom lash line without makeup makes the effect more dramatic.
If using powder blush, dip a medium fluffy brush in to your desired shade and swirl it over the apples of the cheeks. One with a slight sheen gives the illusion of high cheekbones and brightens the whole face. I use Urban Decay Afterglow Blush QUICKIEon myself, which is a gorgeous pink shade with a satin finish.
Now the focal point of the look is the lips. First line with a nude liner and fill in the whole of the lips. This ensures you don't end up with just a line around your lips at the end of the night. Next fill in with a red gloss or lipstick. Hourglass Cosmetics Siren lipgloss is an amazing metallic red shade and gives your look an immediate wow factor Hourglass Extreme Sheen High Shine Lip Gloss Siren
Complete your look with simple hair. just straight and shiny or up in an elegant chignon. This whole look is very elegant but will definitely make you stand out from the crowd.

Days 14 & 15 at home mani's and pedi's

As the last weekend before Christmas approaches and many of you will be out partying and Christmas shopping, getting time to go to a salon for a manicure and pedicure will be near impossible and costly. Here is how to get salon results at home:

Manicure:

Firstly gather these things: A bowl with warm soapy water - ideally use a moisturizing liquid soap or bath foam, nail polish remover, cotton pads, a soft hand towel, a salon quality nail file (from most drugstores), a buffer, cuticle oil - Hand Perfection http://www.handperfection.com/ do a great one, hand cream - Carita Paris http://www.carita.com/ have a lovely one called Velvet Glove, an orange stick, a small angled eyeliner brush, base coat, nail polish and top coat - I love Rescue Beauty Lounges's http://www.rescuebeauty.com/ Tough Chic kit which has all these plus some really unusal colors, my favorite at the moment is Concrete, a pale grey which I've had loads of compliments on.

Start by removing an old polish you have on using good quailty remover and cotton pads.
Soak nails for a minute or two in the warm soapy water and dry gently with a towel.
Apply cuticle oil and let sink in for a few minutes. Using the orange stick gently push them back.
Dip again to remove excess oil and dry off.
Put a little hand cream on and massage in thoroughly avoiding your nails.
File nails into shape, for dark or unusal colors short and squared off looks best.
Buff lightly to get rid of any ridges and create a smooth surface for polish.
Apply the base coat and let dry for a minute.
Apply one coat of your preferred polish, let dry for a minute then apply a second.
Put on the top coat and let dry for a good ten minutes to avoid smudging.
Now dip the eyeliner brush in to remover and go around the edges of your nails and remove any excess without disturbing the polish.

Pedicure:

Using most of the above items plus a few extras: a bigger bowl of warm soapy water, an exfoliating sponge, kitchen towel (to divide toes) a foot file, nail trimmer, a pedicure cream DDF's http://www.ddfskincare.com/ Pedi-Cream is ideal.

Soak feet and scrub them with some extra soap and the sponge.
Dry off and file any rough skin with the foot file.
Apply the cuticle oil, let sink in then push the cuticles back as above.
Rinse off the excess oil and dry your feet.
Massage in the pedicure cream avoiding your toe nails.
Cut your nails if necessary and file into shape, do not round off as this can cause ingrown toe nails.
Divide your toes with strips of kitchen paper.
Paint on the base coat and let dry for a minute.
Add two coats of polish, leaving a minute between them.
Apply top coat and let dry properly.
Remove excess with the eyeliner brush.

Taking your time and doing all the steps above should leave you with a professional looking manicure and pedicure that will last you through the weekend if you are careful!

Days 12 and 13...preparing your outfit and accessories

When it comes to going to a party or big event, I waste a lot of time on the night trying on 20 outfits and then discarding them in my wardrobe a.k.a. the floor! I more often than not end up late, dissatisfied with my outfit and uncomfortable all night. This weekend is the time to go through your clothes and/or buy a new outfit, see what fits and you look good in and see what needs to be done to make it the perfect outfit.
First of all see what skin you'll be exposing i.e back and then you can pay extra attention to making them look as good as possible. As it's getting close to the time of year most people travel home for the holidays, I thought I'd let you in to a few of my secrets on how to arrive looking great, even after a long haul flight.

I travel a lot for work and like to be comfortable and for it all to go as smoothly as possible. So to start with, I always make sure I have a few essentials with me:

My own pillow - I like to try and get some sleep and those little pillows they give out just won't do! Take your own and even if you don't sleep it's far more comfortable to lean on!
A wrap or throw - I use the blanket they give out on my feet and legs, they are a bit scratchy so like to have my own wrap to put around my upper body to keep me warm.
Noise cancelling headphones - their headphones don't usually work so well. My ones also block out the sound of all the commotion around me so I can sleep or catch up on movies in peace!
A big bottle of water - get this after you've passed security and sip throughout the flight to keep you hydrated. I also like to bring a packet of Glowelle http://www.glowelle.com/ to add to it to give my skin a boost.
Fruit - you can make a fruit salad at home or bring pieces with you. These also help to keep you hydrated and is better for you than all the salty snacks the crew pass around. Be sure to eat it all or get rid of it before you land though - you can be fined for bringing it in to other countries!

Day 10....eyelashes

I'm obsessed with my eyelashes and so are most women I know. It is the one thing that I always do - wear mascara. Now there are treatments out there that can grow them thicker, longer and darker, and others to keep them that way. Read on for some products recommendations and tips to keep yours looking good.

Firstly it is important to make sure you remove your mascara throughly but gently every night before you go to sleep. Leaving mascara on all night can cause lashes to become brittle and break. Sorry day 8 is a day late! I had 3 jobs yesterday and I was sooooo tired I couldn't keep my eyes open long enough to write when I got home. So here are days 8 and 9 together!

Hands can be the first thing to give away your age. Most people make sure they look after their facial skin but neglect their hands, and considering the beating they get with the elements and just general use, they need looking after too! I suggest you start by changing from washing with soap to a moisturizing hand wash as soap can be very harsh and drying. Sleeping on a satin pillowcase helps guard against those creases that you can wake up with on your face as it has that slippy factor - unlike cotton which molds to your face. It also helps stop your hair getting frizzy overnight.

Keep a glass of water by your bed in case you wake dehydrated, but try not to drink a lot at least an hour before you sleep so that you don't have to get up during the night - if you get my drift?!

If you have trouble sleeping there are a lot of over the counter remedies and also Melatonin which is a natural hormone that induces sleep (check with your Doctor before taking any remedies though). Day 5....Hair

Time to get your hair into shape for the hectic holiday season and the torture you will most likely put it through from curling irons etc. I suggest from today onwards using a hair treatment twice weekly. Choose a mask depending on your hair type and massage a liberal amount in. Comb through and then put on a plastic shower cap like the ones you get in hotels. Cover with a warm towel, the heat will enable the mask to penetrate better and leave on for at least half an hour before rinsing thoroughly. If possible allow hair to dry naturally afterwards to preserve some of the moisture you've just added. For a real treat you can leave it on overnight with the shower cap on and rinse in the morning!

It’s December 4th and you know what that means…It means the holidays are almost here and the parties are starting.Well if you want to look good in that cocktail dress, don’t fear, there’s still time to tighten up! But you’ve got to start NOW! Believe it or not, you can lose 2 – 5 lbs in just a week. Which can be the difference between wearing that cute cocktail dress or that oversized sweater/legging combo.

Here’s a few fitness tips to follow for the next few weeks to get you looking and feeling good for the holidays:

1. Prepare for Victory: Eating healthy can be easy. Maybe not as easy as going through the McDonalds drive-thru…but almost. You know you’ve got to eat, so prepare for it. Go to the market on Sunday. Wash and cut up all your veggies and fruits for the week and grill a few extra chicken breasts when making Sunday night’s dinner. When you come home from work on Monday night and starving, you’re less likely to drive-thru because you’ve got dinner already made!
2. Quality + Quantity: Be on top of your nutrition and watch those portion sizes. There are so many "diets" out there, but I’ve got a simple one for you. Eat real food. Fresh vegetables, fruits, lean protein and whole grains. Eating non-packaged foods is the way to go, especially if you’re serious about fitting into that dress. And TRUST me, you’ll double the results by eating this way until the holidays.
3. 12 by 24: Commit to doing at least 12 workouts by December 24th. That’s about 4 workouts each week. Plan them like you would plan an appointment. Surely, you can find 4 hours in a week to dedicate to your sexifying your body just in time to tell your co-worker you’ve got a secret crush on him!

Here’s your fitness assignment:
Strength Workout (2 -3 times per week)
Perform the following exercises in the order below without resting in between. After completing the reverse lunges, rest 1 minute and then repeat the whole set 3-4 times.Jumping Jacks, 1 minuteSquats, 15-20Push up, 10-15Step up, 12-15 on one leg, then switch legs and repeatDips, 12-15Reverse Lunge, 12-15 on one leg, then switch legs and repeat* Complete entire set above, rest 1 minute, and then repeat set 3-4 times. Remember to stretch when you’re done!

Cardio Workout (2-3 times per week)
Do a cardio workout 2-3 times a week. Choose any type of cardiovascular exercise you prefer. You want to do at least 40 minutes at a steady pace. You should be able to keep that pace throughout the entire session, while still challenging yourself. For faster results make it 60 minutes! Your second cardio workout should include intervals. For example, if you’re running, jog for 2 minutes, and then crank up the pace for 30 seconds, and then come back down to a jog for 2 minutes. Keep that going through the whole session and you’ll burn major calories! And if you get in that 3rd workout, choose either steady state cardio or interval cardio.

Day 3....cutting out bad foods

We are all guilty of not always eating healthily. If you're in a hurry or are tired, sometimes it's easier to reach for a bag of chips than to cook a healthy meal but if you can try and at least cut down on some of these offenders, it can only do you some good!

The 10 Worst Foods You Can Eat

There are so many products that belong on the list that it has been listed in to food categories. The Foods and ingredients on this list don't need to be avoided entirely, just be sure to eat them sparingly, if you eat them at all.
1. Hydrogenated Fats. These are mostly man-made fats used in bakery items and stick margarine. Studies have shown that it isn't so much how much fat there is in your diet that causes problems, as to what kind of fat, and hydrogenated fats are the worst. Avoid buying cookies, crackers, baked goods or anything else that has hydrogenated oil on the ingredient list. So far, hydrogenated fats don't have to be listed on the nutrition panel as saturated fats do, but the Center for Science in the Public Interest is campaigning hard for the FDA to require it.
2. Olestra. Olestra is a fake fat, used to make non-fat potato chips and other snacks. You'd think, with all the bad rap fat has gotten, a non-fat fat would be great. But Olestra has been shown to bind with fat-soluble vitamins A, E, D and K and carotenoids -- substances thought to keep the immune system healthy and prevent some cancers -- and to eliminate them from your system. Proctor & Gamble, the company that produces olestra, has acknowledged the problem with vitamins A, E, D and K and is now fortifying it with them. Olestra has also caused digestive upset in some people, especially when they eat a lot of it. Often, it's not just fat in the potato chips that causes problems for people; it's the fact that they are displacing healthier foods, such as fruit, so Olestra can just perpetuate an unhealthy habit.
3. Nitrates. Many foods, especially cured meats such as bacon and hot dogs, use nitrates to preserve color and maintain microbial safety. Nitrate is harmless, but it can convert to nitrite, which can form nitrosamines, a powerful cancer-causing chemical, in your body. Whenever possible, look for nitrate-free preserved meats. When you do eat foods containing nitrates, have a glass of orange juice at the same time (for instance, orange juice with your morning bacon). Vitamin C is known to inhibit the conversion to nitrosamines in your stomach.
4. Alcohol. This one item has created more problems than all the rest put together. Of course, it is possible to consume alcohol wisely and safely and enjoy it immensely, such as a fine glass of wine with a delicious dinner. But even if you exercise caution in no other area of your diet, this is the area where you should.
5. Raw Oysters. Raw oysters can carry deadly bacteria that can cause severe illness or death. Because it is strictly "buyer beware" when buying them, you take a big risk every time you do. To date, no government or independent body inspects seafood for safety or will guarantee its quality. Oysters are a nutritious food, and are great to include in your diet, but if you do, cook them first!
6. Saturated Animal Fats. That means fatty meats, especially beef and pork, or the skin on poultry. It also includes full-fat dairy products such as cheese, milk and cream. Fatty meat and dairy products do have some contributions to make to a diet, but none that can't be found elsewhere.
7. Soda. Drinking soda is a poor way to get fluids. They are full of sugar or artificial sweeteners and often contain caffeine, artificial colors and flavors. Substitute homemade soda by mixing sparkling water with fresh, 100 percent juice.
8. Low-Acid Home-Canned Foods. Home canning can be dangerous for foods low in acid such as green beans, carrots or other garden vegetables. The potential of botulism is high because home canners often do not reach the temperatures and pressures necessary to kill the botulism spores that may contaminate the food. Low-acid home-canned foods are one of the main causes of food poisoning.
9. High-Fat Snacks. Chips Even if they are made with vegetable oil, they should be minimized. The balance of fat in our diets has shifted too far to the omega-6 variety, found in most processed vegetable oils. It is thought that too many of these fats may be leading to certain chronic diseases. Instead, focus on fruits and non-fat whole grains for snacking.
10. Liquid Meals. They aren't inherently bad for you, but they do keep you from eating whole, natural foods that contain more nutrients and fiber and disease-fighting phytochemicals. I had such a treat today. I was sent into the gorgeous Neil George Salon in Beverly Hills to get my hair colored. The salon is in a quiet setting and is light and airy, making you feel calm the moment you set foot in the door . The staff are friendly and treat you like a star even though they have many of Hollywood's A listers coming in frequently.

They introduced me to Amanda, the hair color genius. After she had gotten over the shock (whilst trying not to show it) of my appalling at home dye job, I'm so lazy about coloring that I only do the roots haha, she gently told me what needed to be done. Being a bit of a die hard rocker I was determined to keep it very dark, which she did, but also softened it a bit and made it look edgier and fuller by adding some coffee colored tips and a few low lights around my face. Sydney then blow dried it to perfection, making me think I should be going out tonight to show it off! They are the place to go for a great haircut too - Anh is the master of that and I will be paying him a visit soon to get some extra layers put in for a more shaggy rock look!

I met with the lovely Crystal and Dana today from Colorescience Pro www.colorescience.com to see and be educated about their astonishing mineral makeup. I thought I knew everything there was to know about cosmetics until today!

I can honestly say I've never seen anything like it - they showed me in a glass of water exactly what their and no other brand of mineral makeup does. It's hard to explain and does need to be seen to be believed, but the loose powder settled on top of the water and when I dipped my finger in, it formed a protective barrier around it. Countdown to Christmas....and beyond

Starting today, I'm going to give you a beauty advent calendar. There will be a different tip or beauty regime to follow to make sure you look and feel your best by Christmas day and for the New Year's celebrations.

Today, December 1st, is the day to start a skincare regime that should yield full results by New Years Eve (skin usually takes 28 days for cell turnover, so starting today should mean that by NYE you will see a marked improvement).

This means that you cleanse, treat and moisturize twice a day from today! Even if you are soooo tired before bed, at least keep a packet of cleansing wipes by the bed and take off the day's makeup....it's better than nothing!

For oily/acne prone skins I recommend Murad http://www.murad.com/ I wash with the Clarifying wash every day using my Clarisonic brush http://www.clarisonic.com/ this gets my skin super clean but doesn't dry it out.

Getting your makeup on in the back of a moving car!

This is what I had to do today except it wasn't my own makeup it was for Terri! Her schedule had changed and as she had just arrived off of a plane and we didn't have time to stop, I did her full makeup in the car in 10 minutes.

If you get caught out and have to do your makeup on your way to an event (only if you are the passenger PLEASE!) here is how to do it:

First of all get the essential products together in one bag so you aren't hunting for things when you are in a hurry. We aren't talking fancy makeup here, just the basics so you look great when you arrive.

Here is a list of products to gather:

Powder Foundation - this is the quickest way to make your skin look great and as it's in powder form it won't spill or get messy. Apply extra where you need more coverage to omit the need for concealer.

Powder Bronzer - apply this next with a big fluffy brush all over to give you a glow, take it down your neck and decollete too.

A subtle pink, peach or plum blush depending on your skin tone - dust this lightly on your cheekbones to brighten your whole face.

One shade of shimmery neutral eyeshadow - put this all over the lid and up to the crease and blend well for a wide awake look. This is not the time for shading and mixing colors. The shimmer will add enough drama for evening.

Eyeliner pencil in a darkish metallic shade - when the car stops at the light quickly line upper and lower lashes for some definition.

An eyebrow brush or brow gel so you can at least brush your brows into shape.

Mascara - wipe the brush on a tissue so that it doesn't smudge whilst you apply it. Just put one coat on, you can always apply more later at the event.

Lipgloss - in a neutral shade so that if a little goes over the edges it's not a complete disaster.

This should enable you to look fresh and polished when you arrive, no one will ever know how close you were to being caught out!

I am sometimes asked, jokingly, by female friends if I can make them look as good as the models they see on my website. The natural photogenic attributes that professional models possess are hard to compete with for most women, but of course you also have to consider the skills of the photographer, makeup artist, stylist and other dedicated crew members working together to create 'the look' on a high end photo shoot. Most of us who are not models can often feel uncomfortable about having our photograph taken, but there are some simple rules of thumb you can follow to look your best.
What to wear: Go for clothing that makes you feel natural and comfortable - not necessarily the clothes you think will make you look more photogenic. The photo is about you and not the clothes, so if possible avoid wearing bright colors and bold patterns. Neutral combinations, plain pastel or muted colors work best. Remember that ultra trendy fashion styles will date very quickly, so to avoid embarrassment in a few years time, choose classic styles.
Make up: If you wear make up, its best to keep it simple - less is always more!
Heavy make up will be exaggerated in the photo, so go easy, but do pay attention to blemishes or overly greasy areas on your skin, as these will show up prominently.
Lighting: The inbuilt flash on most cameras can give a harsh and unforgiving effect if not operated by someone with a degree of photographic skill, so I would advise taking the photos outside on an a bright but overcast day - mid morning is best. Daylight on an overcast day is softer and more flattering than full sunshine. Get the photographer to consider the background and keep it simple and uncluttered so it doesn't compete with you for attention. If you have to shoot against a busy background, and the photographer has a reasonable command of the camera, ask him or her to put the background out of focus whilst keeping you in focus.
Posing: The camera lens needs to be at your eye level, or slightly above. When standing or sitting, angle your body slightly away from the camera, keeping eye contact and maintain a good posture - don't slouch! The aim is to portray a relaxed confident look. Don't stare repeatedly at the camera because this will make you look vacant and awkward - try looking away from time to time and ask the photographer to take the picture as you look back at camera. Don't be scared to repeat this several times in order to get the best shot. With a digital camera you can review, delete and repeat until you are satisfied. Do smile, but not a big cheesy grin, just think some happy thoughts. If you know the photographer well you could ask him or her to take pictures as you chat - natural and spontaneous looking images can be achieved in this way, but it is a technique used by professional photographers, so the
camera will have to be in the hands of someone who knows what they're
doing.

Maybe a little too much as I try out at least several a week! There are a huge selection out there that perform different tasks. Some are for deep cleansing, some repairing, some deeply hydrating and some that perk your skin up - ideal before a night out.

Here is my round up of some of the best:

For deep cleansing and to firm and brighten oily skin I recommend B. Kamins http://www.bkamins.com/ Diotamamus Earth Masque - I found this left my skin feeling exceptionally clean but really soft and bright too.

For a quick fix for tired skin in the morning after a late night or to freshen up before a party Liz Earle Brightening Treatment http://www.lizearle.com/ is perfect. It works in 2 minutes and is a great pick me up.

For skin that is irritated and red try Healing and Soothing Mask by Mario Badescu http://www.mariobadescu.com/ is amazing. It calms skin down and softens dry patches. I like to use this on shoots when the model has been removing and putting on makeup continuously and her skin needs a break!

For skin that needs purifying after a hectic day in the city Be Fine Warming Clay Mask http://www.befine.com/ is ideal. This warming and soothing mask fights the free radicals that have been ravaging your skin all day long.

For skin that is smooth and glowing before a big night out I love Wine Hydrating Mask http://www.arcona.com/ this gets rid of little fine dryness lines. I find I can go without moisturizer under my base after using this.

For a deeply exfoliating and moisturizing treat use Fresh Sugar Face Polish http://www.fresh.com/ . It not only leaves your face radiant, refined and moisturized, it smells gorgeous too.

For dehydrated skin under your eyes (I put these on for 10 minutes under my sleep mask at the end of a long flight) I always use Stress Relief Eye Mask http://www.esteelauder.com/ these pre-moistened pads really get rid of lines and puffiness and make you look refreshed - even after an 11 hour flight!

I try to use a mask at least 3 times a week and I've been getting a lot of compliments on my skin lately - is it down to masks? Who knows, but I'm going to carry on using them!

There are a lot of products out there that can do double or even triple duty if you know a few little tricks....

Here are some:

A brown eye pencil. This can be used as eyeliner, to fill in brows (brush through afterwards with an old clean mascara wand), a natural eyeshadow if you blend it well over the eyelid to the crease and also a lipliner - lightly trace the outline of your lips and blend with a cotton swab until it is barely there.

A pink, peach or red lipstick can double up as a cream blusher. Apply after foundation and smooth onto the apples of your cheeks for a healthy flush.

The foundation in the lid of your bottle. This tends to thicken up and so is perfect as a concealer, bonus - it's the same shade as your base!

Shimmer powder can be used to highlight cheeks, eyes and the cupids bow and if mixed with some moisturizer it becomes a great all over body shimmer.

Loose face Powder has a multitude of uses! The ones that work best for me are as a dry shampoo - dust on with a clean blusher brush, massage gently into the roots and then brush well. This soaks up oil at the roots and helps freshen. I also use loose powder under my bra when I'm wearing a strapless one, to help keep it in place and if you dust it onto lashes between coats of mascara it really helps thicken them!

Petroleum jelly is great for all sorts of beauty treats. Mix it with eyeshadow to give a glossy editorial look. On cheekbones for a sheen, lashes for a natural conditioned look and lips to keep them soft. You can also put a little down your shin bones to make legs look slinkier!

How I became a makeup artist

I'm often asked how to become a makeup artist, here's how I did it. This may not work for everyone but it did for me.

I started before it became a really popular career, before there were lots of schools and information on the subject. I somehow just knew or maybe I was just being cheeky by asking, but I contacted photographers whose names I had seen in magazines and asked if I could test with them. Most said no but then one gave me a break and he was a very well known music photographer in London. After testing with him for a few months he gave me my first job, a shoot with a rock band called The Quireboys. It was an amazing day and I knew then that it was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I continued testing with other photographers and building my book (industry term for portfolio). I also got my kit together by buying whatever I could afford and asking for makeup for birthday and Christmas presents.

After a little while I was working with a model one day who gave me the number of a photographer she thought I'd be good for. I called him and although he was very abrupt on the phone and barked 'send me your card', I did. Six months later I got a call out of the blue from a national daily paper asking to book me for a fashion shoot with a star from the most popular TV soap. I said yes straight away but wondered how they'd heard of me. I turned up to the shoot and it was the photographer that I'd sent my card to six months previously. I did the job and he asked to talk to me after. He said he loved my makeup and there was a young violinist that he knew that needed a makeup artist and that he would introduce me. Even though I was excited, I'd had offers of help before that hadn't amounted to anything. A few weeks later he called and said they wanted to meet me and see my book. I went to the violinist's house and showed my book and they liked it but said they wanted to have a trial run with me and they'd call me. Well the next week the call came and I went to do the makeup. After I'd done it, they said come with us and the next thing I knew we were at the BBC for her to appear on Blue Peter (a huge children's show in the UK). She was Vanessa Mae, I hadn't realised when I met her that she was actually a rising star! From there I went everywhere with her as her personal makeup artist. We traveled all over the world and it was an amazing experience and made me realize that as much as I love all sorts of makeup, it's great to be working with someone that you know what they like, know their face well. You can experiment with different looks with them because they trust you.

I've been lucky that since then I've worked regularly with different bands and personalities and have been personal makeup artist to quite a few. My job has taken me all over the world and enabled me to experience things I never would have...like sitting in the dug out at Yankee Stadium (my Dad was jealous of that one!), being on a private plane in a storm in Finland (not the best experience), shark diving with a boy band in South Africa, being at the side of the stage at numerous concerts with bands I've admired and of course being taken on by my agent www.beautyandphoto.com in America and fulfilling a lifelong dream of living in the US. I now have achieved another goal in my career and that is a cosmetics campaign - Hourglass Cosmetics this year. I'm not sure where the rest of my career will take me but that is the exciting part, you never know what you will be doing next!

How to achieve the Hourglass Holiday 2009 Look

The Hourglass Holiday 2009 look is up now in Sephoras nationwide and on both the Hourglass and Sephora websites. As I created the look for the campaign I thought I'd let you in on how I created it:

Start by priming your skin with Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer to give a smooth base and give it a few seconds to absorb. Then apply a light base of Hourglass Fluid Veil Foundation and blend thoroughly with a wedge shaped sponge. Apply Hidden Concealer under the eyes and over any blemishes and pat gently to cover without removing the base underneath. Now take a little of the cream highlighter from the Illume compact and highlight your cheekbones, down the center of your nose, your cupid's bow and your browbones. The trick here is to be subtle, so don't use too much and blend well! Next apply a very light dusting of Invisible Veil powder all over to set the base but still leave a bit of glowiness showing through.

Now on to the eyes...using a medium size blender brush, pick up a little of the light cream shade from the Suede Visionaire Eyeshadow Duo and blend over the entire lid, in the inner corners and up to the crease. With a smaller crease brush put a little of the darker goldy shade from the duo in an arc in the crease and yes - blend throughly! Line the upper lid with Calligraphy Liner in Ebony and flick up slightly at the outer corners for a sultry effect. Define your eyebrows if necessary with a powder eyeshadow in a shade closest to your natural color. Two coats of Superficial Mascara in Carbon complete the eyes. Leave under the lower lashes bare, the main focus of this look is the lips.

Leave the cheeks bare apart from the glow from the shimmer cream and concentrate on your lips. Line them with Trace Lipliner in Bare to keep the gloss in place. Blend the line with a cotton swab so it isn't harsh and then apply the metallic red Extreme Sheen lipgloss in Siren for a showstopping look!

I have just begun working out again so that I can be in shape for the holidays and have some room to eat and drink! That's what holidays are about right??

Anyway, I went to a class tonight run by a celebrity personal trainer - Missy B (she trains the casts of Greys Anatomy and Nip/Tuck). It's only for half an hour and the results are remarkable. It tones, burns fat and builds strength in a short amount of time. The last time I did it regularly I lost 5% body fat in 2 months and didn't have to change my diet at all. I haven't been for a while as I couldn't get there because of work commitments, but having been tonight I am fired up all over again! I will either go to class or do Missy's DVD at home from now on. I am always trying new mascaras and am not keen on plastic brushes but this intrigued me, as it was a combination of a regular brush for volume and a plastic one for definition. Well....it works! My friends thought I had false eyelashes on!

Hercut Long Layers Catalyst by http://www.hercut.com/ I've never seen my hair look so shiny and have such swingy movement as I did after blowdrying with this product. I also love the shampoo and conditioner that were specifically for my hair type. All the products worked in perfect conjuntion with one another.

Steps to an easy smoky eye makeup

Most girls like to do a smoky eye for nights out but there is a fine line between a sexy look and a heavy drag queen makeup! Here are the steps to a brownish taupe smoky eye makeup instead of the regulatory black, that never looks too heavy and suits all skin tones....I start by blending a cream eyeshadow/liner all over as a base to keep the rest of the makeup in place and add depth, Smashbox (http://www.smashbox.com/) do a great range for this and I particularly like the shade Putty for this look, they have good metallic ones that would work too.Next Line the top of the lashes with a darker cream liner and blend out, I use Caviar or Midnight Brown for this by Smashbox too. The key to this look is no hard lines. Everything should blend and look feathery. I then go over the shadow base with a shimmery taupe shadow Jouer's (http://www.jouercosmetics.com/ )Amaretto eye shadow is a favorite of mine. Go over the lash line with a fine brush dipped in a dark brown or black eyeshadow and feather it out. Line the lower lashes inside and out with Sephora's (http://www.sephora.com/) chunky eyepencil in 502. You can use this pencil heavily and it looks smoky or lightly during the day for a baby like glisten. Finish with a few coats of black mascara - Fresh (http://www.fresh.com/) Firebird Mascara works perfectly for this look and groom your eyebrows for a polished look.A perfect smoky eye in 5 minutes or less!!

The perfect fake tan

I'm about to go on a cruise and as I don't really sunbathe, even though I live near the beach in LA, I'm still a little pasty and a bit embarrassed to expose my white flesh on board for all to see. The answer lies in self tan, nowadays they give a really believable golden glow and with a few tricks can be applied easily.

I start with a good exfoliation all over, for this I prefer to use exfoliating gloves rather than a scrub as I think this does the job better for this and doesn't leave any grains behind to mess up application. I combine the gloves with a moisturising body wash like Dove and pay special attention to feet, elbows and knees. After your shower dry yourself thoroughly and lightly moisturise your feet, elbows and knees and give it a few minutes to sink in.

I now apply the tan using latex gloves to protect my palms from going orange, make sure you get tight fitting ones so you don't streak your tan. I start at my feet and blend upwards and outwards. If you don't have anyone to do your back I find the best way is to fold one hand up behind your back with the back of your hand against it and one over your shoulder palm down and do a kind of windshield wiper motion. Check in the mirror to see if you've missed any spots and then go back over them. I finish by doing my arms last and then after removing the gloves use a makeup sponge to do the backs of your hands. After applying to your hands, take a little body lotion and rub it in as hands tend to absorb more, then this way they won't end up too dark.

Use a separate tan for your face, one that has been especially formulated so it won't clog pores or cause breakouts and apply this with a makeup sponge too. I like to self tan last thing at night so that it can develop while I sleep and won't get streaky.

I have recently tried several tans and these are my favorites:

Mystic Tan http://www.mystictan.com/ is a 3 step process and has a daily moisturiser to maintain it. It takes a little while to do but is worth it for the lasting deep natural tan it gives.

Xen-Tan http://www.xen-tan.com/ is another great one, this has a gorgeous smell, not like the usual giveaway burnt cookie smell of most of them and is tinted for easy application.

Bronze Goddess Tinted Self Tan by http://www.esteelauder.com/ is my choice for an evening out. You can apply this transfer resistant gelee before going out for an instant golden glow that develops more within a few hours.

For the face I love Solar Tan by http://www.hourglasscosmetics.com/ this is also a makeup primer so again you can apply it before going out under your makeup.

If you'd like to have your tan applied for you and combine it with an amazing body scrub treatment try St. Tropez Self Tanning treatment at http://www.kinaraspa.com/ I had this treatment and not only is it relaxing but the tan was so good people asked me where I'd been!!

To maintain your tan mositurise regularly. I use Body Firming Creme by Estee Lauder, it sinks in immediately and you get the added benefit of the firming action.

Most girls I know like to have pouty lips and at least wear gloss most evenings. Here a few tricks that can help you have the prettiest pout about!

First of all, taking care of your lips is the best way to make them look fuller. Flaky dry lips don't look good on anyone! I start by exfoliating them daily with Befine Lip Exfoliator (available at CVS) http://www.befine.com/ which smooths them instantly. I then use Beautifull Lips by http://www.janson-beckett.com/ to moisturize and plump them. If you'd like a more glossy finish Befine Lip Serum is great, it gives a moist shine without being sticky and treats the skin with it's firmimg properties too. For special occasions I sometimes use Lip Injection Intensive Plumping Lip Mask by http://www.toofaced.com/ to give an extra plump rosy look! If you are just preparing your lips as part of your nightly routine I like to give them a nourishing treat by leaving a decent layer of Superbalm by http://www.lizearle.com/ (which is a multi use balm) and leaving it on overnight.

Now that your lips are smooth and plump begin by outlining the cupids bow with a highlighting pencil, I particularly like Benefit's Cupid's Bow Lip Shaper http://www.benefitcosmetics.com/ which has a highlighting pencil on one end and a definer on the other. I use the defining one just under my bottom lip and blend it well. It makes your lips stand out more but I don't recommend lining your whole lips as this tends to make them look smaller. Next I like tp apply a lip stain all over to give a lasting base of color, again Benefit do some great ones, the original Benetint and now Posietint which is a really pretty pink shade. I concentrate color in the center of the lips which gives a natural just bitten look. Now you have a choice of whether to put lipstick or gloss on or just a little balm to keep the look soft and natural. My favorite choice at the moment is to top off with Medieval Lip Treatment by http://www.lipstickqueen.com/ I find this really looks like I have flushed full lips and is natural in a Snow White rosebud lips kind of way! You could also use a lipstick, again Lipstick Queen have an amazing array of colors and textures or a gloss like the ones from Smashbox http://www.smashbox.com/ which are a favorite of my client Terri Seymour. Liz Earle Skincare Range

I've just returned from an event tonight for makeup artists to be introduced to the Liz Earle range of skin products. Being English I already knew of the brand and am a fan of a lot of the products especially the Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser and the Eyebright Soothing Eye Lotion (which I used on a shoot recently for a cosmetics campaign to remove eye makeup between shots without irritating the model's eyes or skin). But since meeting Liz in person and seeing how amazing her skin is, she's only used her own products for 15 years, I am now going to use the whole range on myself!
She was very informative and really knows everything about natural ingredients. We were given her new book - Skin Secrets and I look forward to reading it and gaining more insight into how she keeps her skin glowing, even after getting off an eleven hour flight from London!

Getting ready for Summer

If you're anything like me, you've spent the Winter months cocooned in layers of warm clothing (yes even in Southern California!) and need a little help before you shed some of them in public. I like to prepare for this with the help of a few beauty rituals....
First of all you need to start getting your skin into shape by smoothing it with a good scrub a few times a week, I like Coconut Sugar Rub by www.purefiji.com as it softens and gets rid of the dead skin all at once and smells like a tropical vacation, something I could do with right now! Next shave your legs with a good quality shaving cream (or foam if your prefer) unless you have them waxed and then you can concentrate on your face. I exfoliate it with my Clarisonic Brush and my favorite face wash Clarifying Cleanser by www.murad.com which is great if you have oily skin like me, you can use a wash specifically for your skin type which there are many of by Murad. I now wash my hair and get out of the shower and put on a hair mask like 3 minute mask by Fekkai and cover it with a shower cap. I like to have a candle burning to help me relax and to read but if you prefer to just relax now is a good time to put on cotton wool pads that have been soaked in Eyebright lotion by www.lizearle.com to brighten and refresh tired eyes. Soak for at least 15 minutes to let all the products take effect and then get back in the shower and rinse off. After drying yourself with a soft fluffy towel, massage in a cellulite lotion that has self tan in it - Cellufight by www.tarte.com is amazing and apply a self tanner to your face, Solartan by Hourglass is my choice as the color is so believable but subtle. It is a primer but I also like to use it at night so that I wake up glowing! Leave your hair to dry naturally so it gets the full benefit of the treatment and get a good night's rest, Murad sleep reform supplement can help if you have trouble sleeping but consult your Doctor before taking it. Now you've done the prep work and are feeling smooth, fresh and glowing you can get ready for your day with a few simple steps.
